Fire Rainbow

Its given name is somewhat misleading, as this phenomenon has nothing to do with either a rainbow or fire but it does sound a lot better than its technical name, a circumhorizontal arc.

Typically formed in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds, this optical phenomenon is caused by the refraction of sun- or moonlight in plate-shaped ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere.
