You would be hard-pressed to find a more iconic actor alive today than the legendary Tom Hanks and while this article might be about bizarre and unusual hobbies, we think this one is rather endearing, especially for someone who played Joe Fox in a story about a man who fell in love with his email pen pal in You’ve Got Mail. He clearly loves typing as his obsession is with vintage typewriters.
This hobby started long before the general public even knew who the future multiple Oscar-winning actor was. He actually started collecting these antiquated machines around the same time he started his acting career when he took his plastic typewriter to a restorer in 1978. The restorer refused to fix the broken machine, calling it”a worthless toy”, and proceeded to show Hanks what a ‘real’ typewriter looked like. From that moment on he fell head over heels in love with antique typewriters and today he owns around 250.
