The change in direction of the investigation would be due to the fact that the second body, that of 19-year-old Barbara Raposa, was found on what could only be described as a “makeshift altar.” The police remained baffled as to what was going on and who was responsible, that was until a 20-year-old sex worker named Karen Marsden came forward with quite an incredible and terrifying story.
Marsden would tell police that her pimp, Carl Drew and fellow sex worker Robin Murphy, who happened to be Marsden’s girlfriend as well, were not only responsible for both murders but were in fact leading a satanic cult. She claimed that their devil-worshipping prostitution ring was practicing rituals and human sacrifices deep within the forests of Fall River and the reason she had come forward was that she feared she would be the next victim.
