They even had a condiment bar where everyone could dress their burgers the way they wanted. After 11 years of its inauguration, the founders decided to sell Burger Chef to General Foods, which, of course, continued to expand the restaurant chain, reaching over 1,000 stores in the early ’70s.

Sadly, they simply couldn’t compete with Burger King, and, in 1982, the restaurant chain was sold to another burger chain, named Hardee’s. All Burger Chef locations were soon Hardee’s locations, and although the new owners transformed each Burger Chef location into Hardee’s, Americans don’t forget Burger Chef’s delicious memories.
